Peter Shaffer’s multi award-winning charming comedy about flamboyant tour guide Lettice Douffet.
An expert in medieval cuisine and weaponry, Lettice is a tour guide of Fustian House, the most boring stately home in Britain – until she begins to embellish her tours, which become more interesting the more they stray from the facts. The Preservation Trust send Ms Schoen to investigate the unexpected popularity of Fustian House, and upon hearing Lettice’s fabrications she is not amused. Lettice is fired; however, Ms Schoen soon discovers that they share a passion for famous deaths in history. She’s drawn into Lettice’s romantic worldview, and the two women forge an unlikely friendship.
This hit by the author of Equus and Amadeus featured a triumphant, award-winning performance by Dame Maggie Smith in London and on Broadway.
